Carbon Accounting & Climate Change
The management of climate change is one of the most important environmental challenges facing corporations, governments, and other organisations. Decision-makers are challenged with the task of managing multiple and simultaneous climate change obligations, on both local and global fronts.
CRA develops strategies for evaluating greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, reducing carbon footprints, and managing energy consumption. CRA also designs, constructs, and retrofits projects to reduce GHG emissions. We provide robust data management programs, delivering reliable and verifiable performance metrics as the basis for corporate reporting of emissions and the implementation of GHG reduction strategies. CRA has proven experience in the initiation of GHG reduction projects in a variety of areas, including assessment, design, permitting, and construction support.
A number of revenue streams can be realised through effectively managing and reducing GHG emissions. The growth in regulatory and voluntary emissions trading schemes offers revenue opportunities, especially for early action.
CRA offers knowledge and expertise in global GHG emissions inventory development, verified emissions reductions or offset credit generation, reporting validation/verification and auditing services, and GHG reduction project implementation. CRA actively supports clients under the EU Emissions Trading Scheme, the California Global Warming Solutions Act, the Kyoto Protocol, the Chicago Climate Exchange, and various other federal, state, provincial, and voluntary emissions trading, estimating, and reporting mechanisms. CRA provides specialist support for all aspects of compliance including emissions monitoring, reporting, verification, validation and new entrant allocation applications.
Carbon Trading (EUETS, CDM and JI)
CRA is one of the few scientific and engineering consultancies approved by the UN as a "designated operational entity" for the Clean Development Mechanism. As such, CRA can provide support in the design of CDM carbon reduction projects or alternatively validate the project design or verify the emissions reductions achieved. These capabilities in carbon emissions reduction and validation/verification are transferable to any carbon emissions reduction projects. CRA also provides guidance to companies engaged in the EU Emissions Trading Scheme.
