Asbestos ServicesAsbestos Testing and Treatment in Soils
Asbestos fragments and debris in soils can be encountered during groundwork on redevelopment sites. This is often the results of historical tipping, illegal tipping of construction debris or imported contaminated soil.
Unlike workplace exposure to asbestos, which is heavily legislated and has available guidance, there is currently no guidance or standard remedial level for asbestos in soils. The lack of guidance can often cause problems on deciding what is acceptable or what is required in regards to remediation of asbestos contaminated soils. Remedial options do not have to be limited to removal and disposal to landfill which can be costly. Treatments can include soil washing, screening, sieving, sorting or even stabilisation or capping where airborne asbestos fibres are present.
CRA can assist you in assessing the type and extent of asbestos containing material in soils on your site and assist you in selecting the best remedial option for your site, as well as provide regulatory liaison support.
